报告内容概要:This presentation highlights our current research activities.The research effort is to develop new synthetic methods and prepare novel molecules for green chemistry and medicinal chemistry applications: 1) Organocatalysis. Development of recyclable organocatalysis for asymmetric fluorine and related reactions. 2) Fluorous Chemistry. Development of new fluorous reaction and separation techniques for making nature product analogs and drug-like compound libraries. 3) Medicinal Chemistry. Design and synthesis of novel molecules for drug discovery research through collaboration with Harvard, NYU, and UMass medicalschools. 4) Green Chemistry. Development of new synthetic techniques with high efficiency, low cost, easy product separation, good catalyst recovery, and minimal waste disposal.

报告人个人简介:Prof. Wei Zhang is the Director of the Center for Green Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He is leading the effort on the Green Chemistry Ph.D. program, the first such program in the United States. Dr. Zhang received his Ph.D. and did his post-doctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh with late Prof. Paul Dowd. His previous positions include Research Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, Senior Chemist at DuPont Agricultural Products, and Director of Discovery Chemistry at Fluorous Technologies, Inc.

Prof. Zhang’s research is in the areas of fluorous chemistry, free radical chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and green chemistry. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers including three in Chem. Rev., three Tetrahedron Reports, and a book “Green techniques for organic and medicinal applications” (Willey 2012). He is currently an editor of Green Processing and Synthesis and associate editor of Molecular Diversity. He is the Board Member of ACS Green Chemistry Institute Curriculum Committee and Green Chemistry Commitment.
